12/20/2003 - Teh w00t! [Daft Punk - One More Time]

I'd sing that song by the white rapper in order to have you all ponder who's back, back again, but I thought that might be overdone.

So, I'm back. Goodie Goodie Gumdrops.

I got a LOT to say, so listen up.

4 reviews, 2 on games (FFX-2 and T.H.U.G.) and 2 on movies (RotK and Elf), so obviously, I am happy, and that is without sarcasm.

We'll start out strong with FFX-2

-----

Final Fantasy X-2:

Let me start this review by saying that I did not finish the game, but did complete 3 out of the 5 total chapters, and got a decent feel for the game.

This game is not like Final Fantasy X.

Ok, the first glaring diffrence (other than "Yunapalooza", which i'll leave to you) is the battle system. Rather than stick with the turn-based system from FFX, they decided to switch to the (oddly) more traditional ATB system found in almost every FF EXCEPT for 10. So, that's not bad.

The sphere system has also been scrapped, but semi-salvaged in the form of "dresspheres", which is kinda like a job system that changes on the fly. A little mentioned fact of this is, the spheres are still on a grid, albiet a bit diffrent. For example, if you place Gunner on a certain spot on a certain grid, you get a certain ability, such as +10 attack or something.

Women changing clothes in battle also has it's appeals.

The story (from what I gathered) is based around Yuna, Rikku, and Paine, a newcomer, with the cliche "mysterious past". This group is also refered to as The Gullwings, but I like to call it "YRP", to be pronounced "Yerp".

They go around and gather, or "hunt" for spheres, until Yuna gets some sphere with Tidus (OR WHAT LOOKS LIKE TIDUS HINT HINT), and at that part, I kinda got bored, and my 5 day rental was up.

Overall, it's pretty solid, and seemed to be genuinely funny at times. On purpose, too. A rarity.

FINAL GRADE: 4 out of 5. Nothing groundbreaking, but hey, it's Final Fantasy, right?

Tony Hawk's Underground:

This is a Tony Hawk game. No, really!

Yes, you can get off of your board. Yes, it has really good online play (so I hear). Yes, there is a storyline that is decent enough to pass. But I swear, it's still Tony Hawk under all that prettyness.

For me, the Tony Hawk series has always been kinda like a good recipie or something. You always have your base, the thing that you will build around, but beyond that, go nuts. Add, subtract, modify, whatever. And this game does that perfectly.

You are a Jersey skate rat, accompanied by your friend Eric Sparrow. You want to go pro, make it to the big time (I'll get back to this in a moment). To do this, you must do the missions requested by random peeps that litter the streets.

It's really better than I make it sound.

Um...getting off your board. This was a long time coming, and it's pretty good. I hope they make it more than just a useful distraction within the next few games. Right now, it's not too important, but helps, and is pretty damn amusing at times.

"Create a Trick" is not create a trick, so much as "Remix a Trick".

I haven't tried the multiplayer, but i've only heard good things.

FINAL GRADE:5 out of 5. It's the Tony Hawk you know and lourve, but with a new coat of paint. And a story.

Ok. Movie reviews later, i'm tired.

Quick hits:

1: Got a microphone for my computer. Expect to hear audioposts and/or audiocomics.

2: After seeing Elf tonight, one of the people working there game me this kick-ass RotK pin-thing.

3: Go to http://lovemarks.com. It's this site where you can show your love for your favorite brand. I nominated Jones Soda, and it's up there. Vote for it! Also, nominate whatever the hell you want.

4: I got some ideas for books. I might share them if you're all lucky.

5: I finally got CounterStrike to work. Woo.

6: He started getting serious, and writing serious rhymes

KTHXBAI.

The only way to wash it is to stand out in rain
